Addis Fine Art is delighted to announce its representation of artist Helina Metaferia. Helina will make her solo debut with Addis Fine Art at this year’s Frieze NYC Online Viewing Rooms from 7 - 14 May 2021.
For Frieze NYC Online Viewing Rooms, Addis Fine Art will be showcasing a series of collage works and an accompanying film by the artist. The works are a continuation of the series titled, By Way of Revolution, a celebration of the overlooked histories of BIPOC women's labor within activism, and the generational impact of civil rights eras of the past on today’s social justice movements.
Frieze Viewing Room can be accessed here.
In partnership with Frieze New York, Addis Fine Art presented a live conversation between Helina Metaferia and Dr. Ayanna Dozier to discuss Helina's practice and 'By Way of Revolution' series on view at Frieze NYC Online Viewing Rooms 2021. Necessary and timely, the talk was part of an online series of initiatives for the Vision & Justice Project and Sarah Elizabeth Lewis. The Vision & Justice Project is dedicated to examining art’s central role in understanding the relationship between race and citizenship in the United States.
The 'By Way of Revolution' series seeks to celebrate the overlooked histories of BIPOC women's labor within activism, and the generational impact of past civil rights eras on social justice movements through collage, assemblage, video, performance art, and social engagement.
The talk took place on 8 May 2021.
