Sudanese artist Amel Bashier's intricate pointillist paintings and ink works on paper draw profound inspiration from the strength and resilience of her female ancestors, particularly those who fought for their rights. Her art serves as a bridge between historical narratives and contemporary dialogues on women's empowerment, freedom, and the enduring spirit of nature.

Bashier’s meticulous technique involves applying thousands of small dots with the nib of her pen, creating compositions that are solid yet ethereal. This meditative practice offers her personal catharsis from the traumas endured by her homeland, conveying messages of peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness amidst ongoing conflicts. Her latest works on canvas focus on the complex relationships between people, and the emotions that result from these relationships–such as brokenness, anger, pain, strength, and joy. In one of the paintings, On the negotiating table, childhood dies, she addresses the injustice of the innocent lives that are lost to conflict.

Born in 1981 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Bashier spent her childhood between Jeddah and Port Sudan on the Red Sea. Now based in Paris, she has exhibited her work internationally, including in London, Paris, Cairo, Dubai, Nairobi, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Khartoum.
